Want to know what Ms.Stobart thinks about horror films? Let's find out!
October is the time to binge-watch scary movies. Ms.Stobart is a huge horror fan who enjoys psychological, folk, and gothic horror films. Interested in finding out the movies that she deems are worth a watch, we sat down with Neuwirth’s number-one horror enthusiast to find out more about the movies she loves and why she loves them.
1. Do you watch horror films, to what extent?
I definitely do. I love horror films. I watch them all year round, but the only thing I watch during the spooky month (October) is horror or horror-adjacent films/TV series.
2. What are your favorite sub-genres of horror?
I love psychological, folk, and especially gothic horror films.
3. If you HAD to choose your favorite horror film, what would it be?
Gretel and Hansel (2020 film). It's not super scary, but the aesthetic of the film is just a VIBE and I love it so much.
4. Do you watch horror film trailers or reviews before watching the movie itself?
I don't look for reviews almost ever because I am picky about what I like and I know not a lot of people would say the same things I would, so the reviews don't hold much weight for me. I DO, however, watch trailers, a lot.
5. What is the Scariest Horror movie character/monster in your opinion?
The most recent Hellraiser (2022) is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen in terms of gore and darkness of plot. The Cenobites are nuts and the scenes are truly gruesome.
6. What got you into Horror movies?
I read a lot in middle school and high school. I read all of the Anne Rice books and tons of Stephen King books. My mother has read every Stephen King book ever written so I had access to any spooky book I wanted!
7. Have you or do you watch horror movies at night?
I LOVE watching them at night. Best time to watch them.
8. What movie scared you most as a child?
Nightmare on Elm Street for sure. and also...The Stand really scared me.
9. What is your favorite horror movie trope?
Midsommar...such an amazing film. Love the themes embedded within it.
10. What scares you the most that happens in horror movies?
Anything happening to children or babies. I have a really hard time with that.
11. What is the scariest experience you have had?
I stayed at a haunted clown motel once and I didn't think it was going to actually be scary, but it totally was. Lots of things happened that I couldn't explain. It might have all been planned as part of the experience but it didn't feel like that.
12. Any memorable events that reminded you of horror movies?
Obviously Halloween Haunt at Knotts and Horror Nights, but I think the Clown motel really felt like I was actually in a horror film.
13. What do you think about while watching horror movies?
I usually try to find the foreshadowing moments so I can reassure myself about what might happen next, but I especially love when I'm surprised by what happens rather than being right about what might happen.
14. Least favorite horror movie(s)?
The Nun 2...super disappointing.
15. First horror movie you have seen?
It wasn't a movie, it was a popular comedy/horror show back in the late 80s/90s called Tales from the Crypt. I remember not being able to sleep bc of some of the episodes and I can still hear the intro music in my head. When I watch it now tho...I don't know why I was so scared, but I was literally 5-6 years old lol.
16. Do jump scares in horror movies scare you, and if so which ones?
They usually just feel exciting as opposed to scary. I loved the jump scares in Talk to Me.
17. Any horror movie recommendations?
YES:
Gretel and Hansel
Mandy
Barbarian
Midsommar
Hellraiser (2022)
Talk to Me
Smile 2
Pearl
