How did Mauricio Leon Ladera become the Sigma of 12th grade, and why do teachers appreciate his AURA in class?

When you are walking the hallways of Neuwirth, you may have noticed the menacing presence of our glorious king, Mauricio Leon Ladera. Mauricio is part of the soon-to-graduate senior class of 2025 and is a well-rounded academic scholar who consistently does more than he is asked.

A person’s true character isn’t just in what they say or do but in how they make others feel. If you ever meet Mauricio, he may come off as a little silly, but you can’t judge a book by its cover, you have to read the book to get an understanding. It's not just that he's silly or goofy; there have been moments when, even without knowing, he's managed to lift others and offer comfort when they're going through something difficult or dealing with personal struggles.

Sounds too good to be true, right? If you really want to know the truth about a person, the best way is to ask their friends.

  • “Mauricio is such a goofy individual, he sometimes makes weird noises such as SALAMELKUM and SIGMA SIGMA BOY SIGMA BOY. But overall, he makes me laugh when I'm in a bad mood and has tremendous aura” (Carmelo Copper).

  • “The day after someone close to me passed away, I had to return to school, and I didn’t tell anyone what had happened. I’m not sure if Muri knew something was wrong, but he didn’t treat me any differently. He made me laugh and hugged me without prying on my feelings. The laughter I shared with my friend that day wasn’t artificial or forced; he genuinely made me laugh.” (Justin Rodriguez).

  • “Mauri always listens and asks cuz he always points out that I stare at school, this one time I worried about my mom and it felt a lot better knowing that he would be there and he did” (Esteven Saloj)

Friends can be just people at school or other people that you just talk to for fun or hang out with, but Mauricio is what fits the role of a “true friend.” A friend who even when he doesn’t understand why, attempts to make you feel better and stays true to helping you out when in an emotional struggle.

When asked what makes him the Sigma with the most aura, Mauricio is surprisingly quick to identify his inspirations, and they are found right here in the halls of Neuwirth:

“My relationship with all of my teachers that are close I think because of the academic struggles that I'm able to surpass with them… Winchell and Bragg were the teachers who seriously encouraged me to want more from my performance in school… Rivera was special to me because despite his personal challenges, he came to school with a sense of purpose, and it's always a good experience when I have a conversation with him. Ochoa and Choeum could be categorized in the same way, in the sense that they allow me to often and freely interact with them during class time in regards to any particular moment that I feel is worthy of sharing with them.”

“I have awesome teachers, and they are why I want to strive for more.”

This little goober is a well-guiding companion outside and inside class environments who makes even the most nonchalant individual break character. Though he may not realize it, his warmth and funny interactions make every new experience more enjoyable for those around him. So you should go talk to him, he might just be what you need as a friend to brighten your mood.
